How does MTACC prepare me for employment?
Currently, medical transcriptionists don't need a state license
to perform their jobs. However, in order to produce accurate medical
documents and produce them fast, you will need the following training:
Medical terminology - such as suffixes, prefixes, root words. This will help you know and understand the meaning of almost any medical term, even if you've never seen the word before. We provide glossaries and terminology lists that will help you with every specialty.
Medical records - This course teaches you the different types of reports, when to use each type, where the data goes in each report, and some of the laws regarding medical records and confidentiality. You will know what you can and cannot do regarding medical records.
Grammar and punctuation - such as periods, semi-colons, commas, conjunctions. As a medical language specialist, it's your job to produce professional transcription. This training will enable you to create professional-looking documents that are consistent and error free.
Transcription practice - A good medical transcription course not only gives you practice, it also trains you to transcribe authentic physician reports in a variety of settings and backgrounds, based on different scenarios. The MTACC simulates real working conditions in that all of our reports are physician-dictated. In addition, we've arranged our reports so you begin with the easiest and progress to more advanced reports as you become familiar with terminology and accents. Our reports are specially chosen to provide a comprehensive, advanced, and accelerated learning curve to all our students. This arrangement enables our students to proceed directly from the training experience into real working conditions without the usual confusion and fear.
From Day One, You're Assigned a Personal Mentor -- Upon enrollment, you're assigned to a mentor who guides you through the course. Your mentor is a person who has a special interest in your success. Our mentors and instructors include Certified Medical Transcriptionists, medical transcription service owners, other experienced MT veterans, and seasoned graduates. In addition, you get access to our private school forum where you can meet and chat with other students and graduates just like yourself. Our instructional forums keep you up to date with information from your instructor and fellow students. This ensures you're never left without help - assistance is as close as your telephone or e-mail.
